Jason Kidd To Lakers?

Published by lakers-fan.com on June 15th, 2009 | Tagged free agency, lakers

Ok, yes I’m already bored of the offseason and have been reading about free agency ONE DAY after we won the championship. I am sad the season is over and looking for other ways to cope with that. And baseball is NOT one of them. Sorry.

I was looking at the free agency for this year and next and noticed Jason Kidd is an unrestricted free agent this summer. I also read this to remind me of the Bynum/Kidd situation a few years ago,

“Had the Lakers lost, with Fisher struggling in the second and third rounds at 34, there would have been an outcry for a new point guard . . . such as, say, Jason Kidd, a free agent who has tried to join the Lakers for years, and says he’ll take less to play with a contender.”

I wonder if this summer will be like 2003, when we swooped up All Stars Karl Malone and Gary Payton for close to nothing, only to have it backfire in the finals when Billups chewed up “The Glove” (I just now got over my depression from that series in 2004 by the way, after winning it this year).

Do you think taking on Kidd would be a good or bad move for the team’s chemistry? He is a great player and getting him for the veterans minimum could never be a bad idea… right?

Im not too sure on how much Jason Kidd still has left in the tank. We already have an aged PG in Fish. I think the money should be used on fixing guys coming off the bench. Eddie House would be a great fix for the Machine and Morrison

i think the team already has an abundance of guards on the roster. also, at point guard we need a player who can hit the open three when asked. we dont really need a facilitator like kidd because we already have ball handlers in kobe, odom, and walton. i think farmar still has a lot of potential and will eventually be our starter.

No to Jason Kidd. I love the guy as a basketball player, but I don’t think we need him. 1) He’s old. 2) He’s a bad jump shooter. 3) As long as Phil comes back and the triangle stays in place…in the half court offense, we don’t really need a traditional point guard. If Phil wasn’t back and the triangle was gone…than, yeah, we may need a real point. As to Sascha, he’ll be much better next year. This always seems to happen…a guy gets a new contract and keep meet expectations. I think if Farmar continues to develop and maybe we hopefully sign Brown for his speedy defense, we’re fine at the PG spot.

I too think that the lakers need a better guards in the bench.

All I’m saying is Kidd at 36 is still better than Farmar now!

  6. Lakeshow Says:

Lakers need a fast young starting Point Guard. They can get rid of Farmar, keep Brown as a bench player and get someone good. Or they can keep their Roster the way it is, with Lamar and Trevor.

  7. ronald Says:

i disagree. i think kidd right now is highly overrated and a lot of people are judging him based on his reputation. his skills have declined greatly and great play from nowitzki, howard, and terry are what mask his decline in ability in dallas. farmar and fisher are perfect for now and when fisher is done farmar and brown will be ready.

  8. Hayden Says:

I think we should just draft Wayne Ellington from North Carolina and then worry about a point guard! We need consistency coming off the bench and someone who can create their own shots. As much as I love MACHINE, he is not a great ball handler and his shot wasn’t falling and that caused a decrease in minutes. Wayne can create his own shot and play D. Machine “D” just pissing people off making them take bad shots. We have three picks in the draft so we should use the 2 2nd round picks and trade up! O and just a thought. Wayne Ellington could be the face off the franchise after Kobe is gone in another 5-6 years!

no no no no! i dont think tht we need him. My brother and I make fun of him because he misses WAY TOO MANY SHOTS! Farmar could make more than him…. its kinda tough to say this but i think machine is even better at shooting than him! We have super amazing point guards already! We have Shannon Brown, Jordan Farmar, and the best of all Derek Fisher… Fish has had Kobe keep his calm for a LONG time. I think we have everything tht we need for a 3 peat… btw i’m missing the lakers too… on monday i went to target and got a NBA game for my wii…. haha :)

  10. Lakers Forever Says:

Jason Kidd is too old and slow for the Lakers. I wish the Lakers can train up more of the benchers now for the next era or to sign new younger guys with lots of energy when Kobe and Fisher retire. This is what I think for the long term.

I understand how Jason is an older guy but it seems the way the Lakers play they play a game that is met for ‘veterens’ it seems to be working so why not add to the pot?
