Understanding the Kobe & Turkey Controversy
Published by lakers-fan.com on December 16th, 2010 | Tagged kobe
What: Kobe signed a deal with Turkish Airlines to be the New Global Brand Ambassador.
Why: Turkey is now offering direct flights from Turkey to Los Angeles. Who better than Kobe (the King of LA) to be their poster boy!
The History: In the early 1900’s, over 1 million Armenian people were killed. It was a genocide. You ever listen to System of a Down? Their songs help tell the story.
The Issue: Turkey’s Government has not, and will not admit that this genocide ever took place. You can imagine how pissed the Jewish community would be if Germany lied about the Holocaust ever happening. And here we are almost 100 years later. It’s sick. It’s wrong. Therefore, the people of Turkey aren’t too happy that Kobe is “partnering” up with the bad guys.
Next Steps: The Armenian community are asking Kobe to use his leverage to throw the Turkish people “an assist” in making the public aware of this awful tragedy. The Armenian Youth Federation is asking Kobe to drop his deal entirely.
What do you think?

You Armenian guys need to understand that there are historians need to study and reveal the truth. Turkish prime minister offered Armenian officials to create a committee to study this but unfortunately Armenian did not say anything. I think they did not have any official document showing that this falsified massacre happened. Turks and Armenian lived together one thousaNd year together.if they wanted to kill a

This is not an issue for historians. This is an issue for lawmakers, international courts etc. Alp, the historians have studied this for almost 100 years. The history is clear, the International Institute of Genocide Scholars, the Encyclopedia of Genocide etc. all say there is NO DOUBT that there was a genocide. In any case what needs to be done is to take this matter to the International Criminal Court.

all this uproar is ridiculous…. ''let's make the famous black athlete a scapegoat for the problems between Armenians and Turks…'' …. this is business, and it's not like Kobe is out to upset Armenians…. he probably doesn't know much of the history, and Turkey is much different today then it was a hundred years ago…. i don't see Armenians standing up for Black Americans and denouncing the 500 years of slavery right here in America, where they are living, and where prejudice to Black Americans are alive and well… as a matter of fact, i have personally witnessed numerous Armenians insult and denounce Black Americans…. now they see a rich and powerful Black man and want to use him for their own purpose…. and i guarantee the same people complaining, wouldn't even let their daughters or sisters even marry a black man……
